A challenging and rewarding position awaits you in Thunder Bay with the Ministry of Transportation's Remote Northern Transportation Office working to ensure safe and reliable transportation to remote communities.

Working with a dynamic team in a fast paced environment, you will lead and manage the operation and maintenance of several remote airports and related equipment and infrastructure within an assigned zone over a large geographical area.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• provide supervision to both staff, contractors and labourers
• organize and carry out the operation, construction and maintenance of remote airports
• plan and administer the annual maintenance program and capital projects
• assist in the development of policies and procedures including the Safety Management System
• developing and maintaining assigned budgets and controls
• liaise with First Nations, Provincial and Federal governments, air carriers and various partners to develop and maintain effective results based partnerships and relations

• You have leadership skills to supervise staff, tradesman, contractors and consultants, often having minimal personal contact
• You are skilled at motivating and leading a diverse team of staff to deliver results
• You have skills to coordinate and direct the operational activities of airports
• You have financial skills to develop budgets and controls and approve expenditures and payments
• You are able to effectively manage multiple competing and changing priorities under
• You are able to lead a team over a large geographic distances

Demonstrated Communication Skills

• You have communication skills to provide recommendations and direction on policies and procedures and work in locations where language barriers exist
• You have consultation and negotiation skills to work with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders to manage issues effectively
• You have interpersonal skills to lead staff and build highly effective teams

Technical Knowledge and Abilities

• You have knowledge of airport management and operations, air transportation systems, and aerodrome operations
• You have knowledge of maintenance, and construction procedures and practices

• You have knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Environmental regulations
• You have Knowledge of relevant legislation to interpret and administer policies and regulations
