About the job
You will:
• Lead the input and review of land use and resource management policy documents, broad scale or landscape level projects, proposals and environmental assessment documents; support the development of planning policies, operational guidelines and procedures as part of integrated teams
• Provide a leadership and coordination to integrated planning teams in the development of crown land use direction, including Conservation Reserves
• Deliver land use and resource management planning advice and training to integrated project teams, staff across the region; provide interpretation, explanation and advice to clients and stakeholders regarding Crown, municipal and resource management planning legislation, policy and procedures
• Consult with external agencies, groups and individuals on broad scale or landscape level land use and resource management plans, projects, issues to develop strategies and achieve program results
• Prepare briefing notes, Minister's letters for senior management
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
• You must possess a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario, to travel within the prescribed region as required as some locations do not have access to local/city transportation means.
Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills:
• You have analytical and problem solving skills to analyze and interpret policies, review and assess landscape resource management plans and broad scale projects/proposals.
• Using your reasoning and problem-solving skills, you are able to understand regional implications to determine conformity with provincial policies, plans and ministry program objectives as well as synthesize and consolidate input to identify and facilitate resolution of impacts and provide recommendations and options.
Technical expertise:
• You have demonstrated knowledge of Crown and municipal land use planning, resource management planning, and related resource management processes, theories and practices.
• You have the ability to interpret, and apply relevant Crown and municipal land use and environmental assessment legislation, policies and directives.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
• You have the ability to negotiate, influence and reconcile diverse interests of agencies, non-government organizations, proponents and the public to gain support for ministry positions or planning issues, on often complicated or sensitive matters.
• You have well developed communication skills to provide explanations, advice, and guidance, discuss technical information and provide training.
• You can prepare planning documents, articulate recommendations and options, briefing material, and corporate correspondence.
Planning, coordination, project management and organizational skills:
• You can plan and coordinate large scale land use planning and regional resource use planning processes or projects.
• You have group leadership skills to support and provide guidance to integrated and diverse planning teams.
• You take initiative to prepare recommendations and proposals, based on input from program specialists, to develop program plans.
