The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change needs your expertise in policy development to support the Resource Recovery Policy Branch. You will play a key role in conducting important policy research, issues analysis, and support or lead projects and studies related to resource recovery and waste reduction.

About the job

• Undertake or contribute to policy development and program analysis related to resource recovery, waste diversion and waste management activities
• Develop policy options and recommendations for resource recovery, waste diversion and waste management initiatives
• Liaise with key stakeholder groups to collaborate on research projects, exchange information, and consult on policy options and solutions.
• Prepare policies, research papers, and other legislative documents for senior management to review.

What you bring to the team


Knowledge of Program and Policy Development

• You have knowledge of environmental sciences and ability in applying theories, principles, practices of waste management and diversion to develop initiatives and programs to achieve government's objectives
• You have knowledge of government decision-making processes
• You have knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and existing policies and programs
• You have an understanding of the broad political, technical, economic, and social issues related to resource recovery, waste diversion and waste management and reduction.

Analytical, Research and Evaluation Skills

• You have analytical, research and evaluation skills to assess the effectiveness of policies and programs.

Communication, Consultation, and Presentation Skills

• You have communications skills to draft policy papers, reports, analyses, briefing notes, and materials for cabinet submissions.
• You have consultation skills to participate in discussions and negotiations with other ministries, industry sectors and other levels of governments.
• You have facilitation and presentation skills to provide research findings on policy and program development projects.

Project Management Skills

• You have project management skills to contribute and provide leadership to project teams and external consultants.

Computer Proficiency

• You are proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and presentation software to research and prepare briefing materials and policy submissions.
