About the job
What is a Senior Communications Advisor's role?
You will:
• Develop creative strategic plans for communications and stakeholder engagement.
• Dive deep into the policy environment to provide expertise, strategic advice and support to the Minister, Deputy Minister and Cabinet Office.
• Write communications materials to promote ministry programs and services.
• Incorporate appropriate government/ministry messaging in communications materials.
• Lead and guide branch, cross-branch and cross-program project teams.
What you bring to the team
Technical Knowledge
• You have demonstrated knowledge of contemporary communications planning and execution theories, principles and practices.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of government and ministry mandate and priorities, core businesses, and relevant legislation.
• You have proven knowledge of policy development, and legislative and political decision-making processes.
• You have proven experience in project management.
• You have a solid understanding of best practices in writing and editing
Communication Skills
• You have experience explaining policy/legislation to appropriate audiences, using appropriate language.
• You have experience preparing communication materials, briefing documents, proposals and recommendations.
• You have experience advising business partners, stakeholders and staff on strategic communications initiatives and programs.
• You have experience writing key messages and other communications products that are appropriately targeted and effective.
Research and Analytical Skills
• You have the skills to conduct environmental scans on strategic communications trends, developments and best practices.
• You can develop performance measurements and provide accurate communications assessments and analysis.
• You can look ahead to create quarterly, semi and annual communications plans incorporating different perspectives such as policy and program development and issues management.
• You have experience preparing responses, strategies and solutions to address contentious issues.
Leadership Skills
• You have built effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to plan strategies and develop communication materials
• You have led multi-disciplinary groups in implementing strategic communications projects and initiatives.
• You have led evaluations to ensure that strategic communications positioning is consistent with priorities.
• You can provide technical direction, guidance and training to branch/unit employees.
