About the job
As part of the team with the Mine Rehabilitation, Inspection and Compliance Section, build your engineering skills by:
• providing engineering support/assistance for the development, evaluation and implementation of Abandoned Mines Rehabilitation projects
• assisting in the review of stability analysis, hazard assessments and the review of rehabilitation work providing recommendations for existing and/or proposed surface and underground mine rehabilitation methods or structures
• participating in compliance reviews and in assigned projects including on-site inspections, studies of potential hazards and ground stability problems
• participating in the development/review of related policies, legislation, guidelines and procedures for mine rehabilitation
• providing engineering/technical support for conducting applied research projects, and assisting with preparing reports, technical papers and disseminating information on the results
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have graduated with a relevant engineering degree (e.g. mining, rock mechanics, geotechnical, civil) from a university of recognized standing within the past five years.
• You must be an Indigenous person (i.e. First Nations, Métis, Inuit).
• You must possess a valid Ontario driver's license.
• You must be registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
Specialized Knowledge:
• In the application of engineering theories, principles, and practices and the ability to provide engineering support to a wide variety of unpredictable and potentially serious problems related to mine closure and abandoned mine hazards.
• Knowledge of open pit and underground mining practices, mine rehabilitation and mining related ground stability issues.
• Knowledge of research methodologies, with ability to analyze and apply research results to practical situations.
Important Skills:
• You have proven interpersonal and communication skills.
• Planning, project management and organizational skills to lead and participate on a variety of projects, to determine the various objectives, priorities, and schedules, and to meet deadlines.
• The ability to research, analyze and assess complex and diverse issues, with attention to detail.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and support the preparation of presentations.
