About the job

In this role you will:
•Prepare meals in volume commensurable with the number of clients
Prepare the best quality, freshest ingredient “just in time” while maintaining above average food cost management best practices
Prepare and deliver regular and dietary meals
•Ensure operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment
•Maintain a clean and safe food service operation and food specifications are met
•Maintain, store and stock supplies and inventory
•Provide guidance, mentoring, and supportive instruction to Food Services Helpers
Act for Food Services Supervisor when required
•Other duties as assigned

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

Completion of an accredited community college Cook Certificate, Food services Safe Food Handling certificate from the Department of Health, and
completion of a WHIMS certified course

Knowledge

•Demonstrated knowledge of large volume cooking/baking procedures and methods, to prepare a variety of foods, volume meals and special diets and ensure quality and quantity
•You can operate kitchen equipment and tools to prepare food and means and instruct helpers in their proper use
•Knowledge of relevant parts of such legislation as Public Health Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System to ensure compliance with standards of sanitation, food safety, and proper equipment operation/utilization and to maintain safety in the workplace

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• Provide guidance, mentoring, and supportive instruction to Food Services Helpers, which include providing input into safety and equipment operation
•You can act for the Food Services Supervisor in his/her absence
•You can manage emails, deal with clients and convey messages in a clear manner

Multi-tasking and Analytical Skills

•You can ensure meals are properly presented punctually served and conform to portion control standards
•You can assist in maintaining a daily food item inventory of supplies on hand required for pre-determined menus and making alterations or substitutes for food items not immediately available in the absence of the supervisor

Organizational & Multi-tasking Skills

•You can prepare and deliver meals and at special events at the College
•You can manage heavy lifting to receive stock and handle large food products
