We are seeking a policy focused strategic thinker to join a team of policy professionals that contribute to the development, coordination and maintenance of provincial policies and program development relating to water management and associated infrastructure.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• provide policy advice and expertise related to water management, the construction, operation, maintenance and safety of dams, and the consideration of environmental sustainability and physical infrastructure
• lead and/or coordinate research project teams comprised of ministry and industry staff on matters related to water management planning for dams, the construction, operation, maintenance and safety of dams, and related legislation
• work within a multi-disciplinary environment, regularly interacting with aboriginal communities, tribal councils, municipal governments, industry and NGOs, as well as other ministry divisions and government ministries
• play a key role in participating on staff level intergovernmental and external stakeholder committees, task groups, partnerships and business relationships

What you bring to the team


Policy and practical knowledge:

• knowledge of policy and development principles and techniques to lead and/or coordinate the development of provincial policies and programs related to water management planning for dams, and the construction, operation, maintenance and safety of dams
• knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation, government water management and dam infrastructure policies, and resource management policies and practices

Interpersonal and communication skills:

• communication skills to prepare detailed technical reports, proposals, briefing notes, communications, and presentations, as well as to respond to issues, consult with and provide advice to stakeholders
• persuasion and negotiation skills to resolve issues and disputes with stakeholders, governments and other organizations with opposing views
• consultation, facilitation and presentation skills to provide training and make presentations to staff, industry clients, and other stakeholders

Analytical and evaluative skills:

• experience using research and program evaluation techniques to lead research project teams related to water management and dam infrastructure; to investigate issues; and to conduct analysis of options and solutions
• ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and legislation to ensure legislative compliance and alignment with strategic objectives in the sector

Project management skills:

• project management skills to coordinate research projects; develop project plans, and deliver operational and technical policies and programs to standards and timelines
