About the job
In this role you will:
• Provide scientific expertise and leadership in the investigation and assessment of surface water compliance issues related to ambient water, sediment and aquatic biota, defining the sources and causes of impairment.
• Develop recommendations for remedial actions or control programs to meet Provincial standards and objectives based on the findings of investigation.
• Provide expert scientific knowledge, guidance and advice to Regional staff and other clients in the assessment of surface water contamination issues, and issues related to the non-compliance and impacts of industrial, municipal and agricultural discharges and runoff.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Degree in environmental or related sciences;
• Valid Ontario Class G Drivers Licence as province-wide travel to field sites is required.
Scientific Knowledge:
• You have knowledge of theories and application of the principles of environmental or related sciences and practical experience in these fields.
• You have knowledge and proven application of the principles and procedures of scientific research, analysis and investigative techniques
• You will co-ordinate and implement site-specific water and sediment quality investigations and provide scientific expertise and leadership in the investigation and assessment of surface water compliance issues related to ambient water, sediment and aquatic biota, defining the sources and causes of impairment.
• You will also provide scientific expertise and advice to staff and clients on water and sediment quality; design and implement field investigations; analyse data and prepare scientific reports;
Legislation & Policy:
• You have knowledge of environmental legislation and Ministry policies pertaining to aquatic environmental quality
• You have the ability to provide advice to Regional staff regarding outcomes of field investigations and issues of non-compliance
Organizational & Planning skills:
• You have the ability to plan studies and investigations of problem areas, including identifying objectives, protocols and procedures, resources and study requirements, arranging and organizing work of study participants.
• You have strong scientific leadership and guidance skills in the development and design of field investigations to assess contaminant levels in the aquatic environment
Oral & Written Communication Skills:
• You have the ability to prepare a variety of documents and reports for a range of audiences
• You can present detailed scientific/ technical information and reports, in such a manner that public can readily understand the content and present programs to public clients;
• You have experience in writing, reviewing and editing scientific reports and presenting findings to senior management.
Leadership Skills:
• You can lead technical staff, organize the participation of assigned staff, partner agencies and/or university scientists, graduate students and provide scientific leadership and guidance in the development and design of comprehensive monitoring and research programs.
Computer Skills
• You have experience in Microsoft office software programs, database and statistical software in order to analyze data, prepare specialized scientific reports, and communicate them electronically.
