About the job

Work Description:

As an Ontario Place Marina Attendant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Maintain the physical appearance of all Marina areas, including removing debris from the water and docks, ensuring garbage bins are emptied on a regular basis, and maintaining the cleanliness of the washrooms and laundry facilities in accordance with a set maintenance schedule.

  • Operate and sell fuel and various boat-related products at the Marina Fuel Dock.

  • Comply with all Technical Standards and Safety Authority regulations regarding the safe operation of a fuel station.

  • Ensure the accurate collection and processing of all revenue from Marina Fuel Dock and ice sales.

  • Assist all boats in docking and casting off, and maintain good public relations with all Marina patrons, including fielding general inquiries.

  • Maintain a safe environment for guests, their boats, and staff. This includes conducting dock checks of all Marina areas, ensuring that only authorized boats are docked, enforcing pass regulations, and updating visitor logs.

Mandatory requirements

You must meet all eligibility criteria on the first day of employment to be eligible for these positions.

  1. Student Status: All summer jobs require a “student” status. A student is defined as someone enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) or has graduated within the past six months. If you graduated in January, you could apply for and start a summer student position in the Ontario Public Service up until June of that year.

  2. Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Due to program eligibility requirements, certain opportunities require students to be up to 24 years of age (or up to 29 years of age for a person with a disability). Certain positions require you to be a minimum of 18 years of age. You must meet all age requirements for the position by May 1, 2017.

  3. Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.

  4. Work Status – Ability to Work in Canada: You much be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You apply your customer service skills and your verbal and active listening communication skills to provide a high level of customer service at all times.

  • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • You have experience with operating marine vessels.

  • You have experience with cash handling and using Point of Sale (POS) systems.

Analytical and Organizational Skills

  • You apply your administrative and organizational skills to maintain records, daily log entries, daily statistics, etc.

  • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your work to meet competing deadlines.

Other Requirements

  • You are at least 18 years of age.

  • You must have a valid Ontario G2 (or higher) Driver's Licence or equivalent with an excellent record.

  • You must have a valid and current Pleasure Craft Operator Card or be willing to obtain this certification as a condition of employment.

  • You must be able to swim 300 metres without stopping.
