The Opportunity:
The Ontario Science Centre Recreational Programs Department offers science-based programs for youth 4-14 years and at times, their accompanying adult chaperones. On an annual basis the Ontario Science Centre Recreation Program department operates weekend birthday parties, sleepovers, day camps, week-long camps, and also provides program and customer service support for internal departments.
About the job
The Recreational and Family Program Leader (Camp Supervisor) will support the operations of the Ontario Science Centre's Summer Camps programs. This position is responsible for:
•Providing logistical planning support and front-line coordination of the Summer Recreational programs offerings
•Developing and delivering staff and volunteer training programs and ensuring staff and/or volunteers follow the OSC Recreational Programs policies, principles and procedures at all times
•Providing ongoing direction and feedback (verbal and written) to camp staff and/or volunteers and conducting daily camp meetings
•Interacting with program participants and their guardians and resolving incidents, emergencies or parent/caregiver concerns
•Completing administrative tasks to support the program such as incident reporting and policy reviews
•Overseeing facility pre-camp set-up and post-camp clean-up/take-down
•Ensuring program supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained in a safe working condition
•Travelling within the GTA region to purchase and pick-up program supplies as needed , including boxes, supplies and other large items (up to 20 lbs) related to recreational programs
•Participate in camp and other recreational program activities that include extended periods of sitting, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching and/or standing.

Mandatory requirements
•All candidates must be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C prior to the start of employment and maintain certification throughout employment
•Top candidates will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening check for this position.
•Be available for the full duration of the camp program.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
•Ability to assist with the planning, training and operations of a large scale summer camp or recreational program
•Ability to learn, understand, follow and enforce procedures, daily operations and program practices.
•Knowledge of camp or other recreational program specific adaptive and integration strategies.
•Supply management skills to identify suppliers and specifications, collect quotes, etc. to maintain accurate stock inventory of program supplies and equipment.
Leadership and Organizational Skills
•Excellent coordination and attention to detail skills to provide logistical support to complex program schedules.
•Ability to assist with training and orientation of staff and volunteers under the guidance of the Manager
•Demonstrated ability to work in, and lead others in a way that fosters a team atmosphere.
•Ability to provide ongoing direction and feedback to staff and/or volunteers in order to support organizational expectations and assist with skills and professional development.
•Demonstrates initiative problem solving and critical thinking skills and ability to react quickly and appropriately to camp activities related issues.
Communication Skills
•Knowledge of and experience in teaching recreational or scientific programs, other curriculum content presentation principles and/or other educational or recreational program demonstrations techniques and activities.
•Ability to adapt engagement or activity language level, style, pace and/or illustrative examples to cater to a wide range of learning abilities and styles.
Customer & Front-line Service Skills
•Demonstrated customer service skills to engage effectively with campers, parents, staff, volunteers and external/internal stakeholders.
•Ability to interact with caregivers and visitors in a professional, responsible and respectful manner as a representative of the Ontario Science Centre.
•Ability to assess situations, make sound decisions and exercise diplomatic customer service tactics in a busy environment.
