About the job

• provide analytical and logistical support to the Human Dimensions of Conservation and Ecosystem Management research program
• assist, coordinate and oversee research that addresses key ministry priorities
• lead projects, support policy development, and communicate progress of the program to internal and external clients and stakeholders
• assist in development of research/contract proposals and oversee delivery of service contracts
• deliver public presentations and participate in science forums and working groups/committees

What you bring to the team

Mandatory:

• You have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent as recognized in the province of Ontario to conduct field work.
• You have the ability to obtain a small watercraft certificate for vessel operation.
• You have the ability to use equipment such as all-terrain vehicles, boats and motors, snowmobiles and the ability to undertake physically demanding field work in all types of weather conditions.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have knowledge of the human dimensions of resource management including outdoor recreation, fisheries, forestry, and/or wildlife management, and social-ecological systems.
• You have experience applying surveys of people, and developing and estimating economic models, assessing public participation, and conducting interdisciplinary research.
• You have experience with analysis and interpretation of data in support of policy development.
• You have demonstrated experience in laboratory and field procedures, experimental design and surveying for human dimensions research.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have well developed interpersonal skills to respond to inquiries from clients/partners (e.g. collaborators, contractors, consultants, staff and forest industry).
• You can communicate effectively to provide clear instructions in the use of survey methods, computer software as well as sophisticated field and laboratory equipment (e.g., field mapping systems and surveying instruments, digital cameras, test instruments, and electronic devices).
• You have interpersonal skills, initiative and good judgment to determine the approach to a task and to resolve issues.
• You have leadership skills to provide training, assign and monitor work and report on progress.

Analytical and problem solving skills:

• You have sound analytical and problem solving skills to make decisions to determine the nature and extent of deviations from existing data collection standards/protocols and recommend corrective action.
• You can resolve technical problems, gather/analyze information and determine options and best course of action.
You have proven experience to work through issues/situations while working in the field.

Planning and coordinating skills:

• You have planning and coordinating skills to organize, schedule and coordinate human and equipment resources (e.g. boats/motors, vehicle transportation, aircraft, base camp equipment) for field projects.

Computer skills:

• You have proven experience with database management and systems, statistical analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS) and computer applications.
