Are you an innovative strategic communications professional? Do you excel at conveying information in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing, and enjoy writing a variety of communications materials?

If so, bring your expertise to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Communications Branch at the Ministry of the Attorney General. This is an opportunity to support initiatives dedicated to informing Ontarians about the mandate and work of the SIU.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• manage the planning, development and implementation of communication strategies (including social media), programs and initiatives to position, promote and communicate the role and activities of the SIU
• contribute to and assist with the planning, input and production of the SIU Annual Report and prepare a range of resource materials such as policy recommendations, speeches, brochures, news releases, media advisories and SIU information packages
• plan and manage all phases of a variety of high profile and sensitive projects, such as market launches of both private and public sector nature
• assist with and contribute to the development and implementation of community outreach products, services and strategies (including providing back-up to the SIU's Outreach Coordinator/s as required) to manage effective relationships between the SIU and a broad range of ethnic, cultural and community groups, including the police.

What you bring to the team


Technical Skill and Knowledge:

• You demonstrate knowledge of communications theory, principles and practices, and media/public relations to analyze opportunities, synthesize issues and interpret business context to develop communications plans and recommendations
• You demonstrate knowledge of issues management, community outreach and events planning critical to the coordination of SIU's communications activities
• You have public relations skills with an understanding of a range of ethnic, cultural and other identifiable communities, including the police
You are knowledgeable of the workings of the justice system in general, and the criminal justice system in particular

Research, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:

• You are able to interpret, identify and implement a communications approach to manage an issue or communicate an initiative
• You can identify and analyze attitudes, emerging issues and trends, and their relevance to current SIU initiatives and policy development
• You demonstrate the ability to research and analyze information to determine issues that may be contentious and recommend appropriate response

Interpersonal and Influencing Skills:

• You demonstrate excellent written and oral communications to develop communications and issues strategies, conduct meetings, provide advice, make presentations and communicate with clients, stakeholders and other ministry partners
• You demonstrate diplomacy and relationship management skills to develop and maintain effective partnerships with various stakeholders
• You demonstrate discretion to handle a wide range of complex issues which have media attention and often require immediate response to avoid potential controversy or emergency

Leadership Skills:

• You demonstrate leadership and motivational skills to encourage participation, interact/work with colleagues, senior management, other ministry and OPS project teams in joint communications efforts
