About the job

In this role, you will:
• Develop and implement a client-focused mandate and a defined sector engagement strategy to ensure an enhanced client experience
• Identify domestic and multinational companies within defined sector, their potential for growth or increased stability, and potential barriers for growth
• Plan, coordinate and lead targeted stakeholder outreach to businesses in Ontario to promote competitive investment opportunities, cost advantages, quality and availability of talent, connections and incentives available in Ontario
• Promote one-window access to investors in order to attract, expand and retain strategic investments from global and Ontario companies
• Develop networks in the public and private sectors, including building relationships with companies, academic institutions, and federal, provincial, municipal government stakeholders
• Lead research on all aspects of targeted sectors and sub-sectors, including provincial economic impact, global trends, supply chain dynamics, integration with other sectors and jurisdictions, and growth potential within the province
• Develop and recommend strategies and action plans to heighten awareness, and position Ontario as a premier destination for investment
• Lead the preparation of briefing notes, options papers, presentations, grant applications, Cabinet and Management Board submissions. Brief senior management and provide advice on companies, issues, sectors.
• Work within the ministry and across the Ontario Public Service (OPS) to address and resolve business and sector related issues
• Assist in assessing domestic and international economic and political developments that may influence investment in Ontario's business sector, and maintain a leading edge awareness of emerging trends with direct impact on the province's interests.

What you bring to the team


Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have excellent oral and written communication skills to represent the ministry and province at inter-ministry and intergovernmental meetings
• You can provide advice and strategic recommendations to clients and senior management
• You are able to lead the preparation and presentation of a range of reports and proposals related to investment sales and service programs
• You have excellent advisory, consultation, interpersonal and consensus building skills to develop relationships with both public and private sector stakeholders
• You are able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage long-term projects in parallel with short-term deadlines

Leadership and Project Management Skills:

• You have knowledge of project management principles and processes to design, plan and lead projects and implementation plans, which integrate a range of fiscal, economic, political and market factors and data
• You are able to organize sector research projects and lead environmental scans to identify prospective investment opportunities

Analytical and Research Skills:

• You have knowledge of research principles, techniques and quantitative/qualitative methodologies
• You have excellent analytical and research skills to identify and evaluate emerging political and economic events, issues and trends impacting the ministry's strategic investment interests in the established target sectors
• You are able to identify investment opportunities for the province, including partnerships and joint initiatives with investment stakeholders within Ontario and global target markets, identifying and mitigating barriers to growth

Business Knowledge:

• You are a strategic thinker who can efficiently perform a sector scan to identify opportunities, develop a strategy and value propositions, as well as a tactical implementation plan
• You have knowledge of business management principles, including strategy, business plans and financial analysis to support program delivery
• You understand global competitive strategies, and domestic/international markets
• You have knowledge of Ontario's investment marketing strategy, strategic direction and political objectives for domestic and international attraction of strategic business investments
• You have knowledge of key subsectors of Life Sciences such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices
