About the job

As a Park Warden you will carry out a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities including:

• resource management
• assisting with enforcement and security
• carrying out a variety of technical duties
• operating and maintaining light powered equipment
• facility sanitation and general park maintenance
• assisting with customer service and providing information to park visitors
• providing leadership related to enforcement and visitor programs
• providing aid and emergency services to staff and park visitors

Staff housing accommodations are not available at these parks.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry standards in use of force training.
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid Certificate.
• You are willing and able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as required.

Specific knowledge:

• knowledge of applicable resource management and natural resources principles, techniques and legislation, policies and guidelines to enforce provincial statutes; to explain rules/procedures to employees and park visitors; and to work with other agencies
• ability to prepare documents for court and have an understanding of court proceedings
• knowledge of park administration, business practices, procurement policies, procedures and guidelines to update park training records, maintenance and equipment records, and to maintain adequate inventory of park maintenance supplies

Technical knowledge and skills:

• working knowledge and skill in the safe operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment to carry out routine maintenance duties and operate light powered equipment, such as lawn mowers, chain saws, boat motors, etc.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• knowledge of customer service standards/practices, telephone operation and etiquette to serve park clients and respond to general information requests from internal/external clients.
• group leadership and interpersonal skills to provide direction and guidance to park staff and students by assigning work, explaining work methods, monitoring performance, and ensuring continuity of services
• communication skills to address complaints, and to clarify and explain items in detail to park visitors regarding park procedures, policies, and legislation and to conduct Park Warden duties

Analytical and organizational skills:

• analytical skills to apply resource management principles and techniques and to respond to emergency situations with the potential for serious consequences
• arithmetic skills to accurately account for change float, track expenditures, purchasing supplies, prepare travel claims and maintain park inventories
• organizational skills to organize own workload, meet deadlines and to assign work to park staff to maintain operational efficiency

Computer proficiency:

• ability to proficiently use computers and common office productivity applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and internet
