About the job

Under the Guidance of the Park Superintendent and District Resource Liaison Specialist, you will:
• Assist with the planning and implementation of aboriginal programs and initiatives
• Promote understanding, co-operation and participation in MNR's sustainable resource management programs and Ontario Parks strategic direction
• Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach initiatives to aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities
• Assist in the preparation of management plans to ensure the consideration of aboriginal interests
• Foster input from communities

What you bring to the team

Knowledge

• Knowledge of resource management principles and practices
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies
• Understanding of aboriginal culture, social and economic issues to provide input and advice into resource management plans
• Written communication skills to prepare technical reports, presentations, briefings and communication materials
• Organizational skills to assist with planning and delivery of meetings and workshops and manage multiple projects at the same time
• Interpersonal and oral skills to participate in internal ministry meetings and make presentations as required
• Maintaining comprehensive documentation and tracking of contact and liaison with communities and individuals, documenting and reporting on those contacts.

Analytical and Research Skills

• Analytical skills and computer skills to conduct research manage information and prepare reports
• Analyzing and researching information and data: applying policies, procedures and directives to support issues, events and solutions.
• Ability to understand and develop excellent working relationships with a variety of stakeholders

Computer Skills

• Knowledge of computer software packages including MS-Excel, MS Word, MS Access, GIS, e-mail and internet to prepare correspondence and reports;

Eligibility:

• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years;
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 18-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past.
