The Ministry of the Attorney General, Civil Law Division - Transportation is seeking an experienced and team oriented, enthusiastic and dynamic lawyer who is well organized, a self-starter, and who can work in a fast-paced environment.
About the job
Duties will include:
• Drafting, reviewing, revising, negotiating and registering real property and other transactional and permit related documents with third parties and providing related legal advice (including written and oral advice).
• Providing expertise and advice (including written and oral advice) for conveyancing staff and real property administration staff throughout the Ministry of Transportation.
• Providing legal services (including written and oral advice) on corporate commercial matters with a focus on: land interests and transactions, construction procurements and contracts, expropriation, construction litigation and dispute resolution.

Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Upper Canada
Knowledge and Skills
• Proven drafting skills, demonstrated experience and expertise in drafting, reviewing, and advising on a wide range of commercial real property transactions and documents as described above and experience negotiating such documents with sophisticated third parties.
• Demonstrated ability and experience in independently handling a significant volume of files as described above and leading and working effectively in a team environment with various program areas, counsel, articling students, and conveyancing staff and property administration staff across an organization with widespread and active property operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide advice to effectively deal with real property permitting issues and issues related to the successful closing and ongoing administration of sophisticated real property transactions.
• Knowledge and understanding of expropriation law and documents and processes applicable to land expropriation files, especially where the client is an expropriating authority.
• Demonstrated experience in and expertise with corporate and commercial matters including, but not limited to: drafting, reviewing, revising, advising on, and negotiating corporate and commercial documents in complex matters. These documents include: procurement documents, purchase and sale agreements and all other types of land transaction documents, OIC's, licence agreements, letters of intent, memoranda of understanding and consulting service agreements, etc.
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable and relevant statutory provisions.
• Knowledge and understanding of financial issues.
• Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to a fast pace and changing work environment.
• Experience in handling urgent matters and working to strict deadlines in a busy and high-volume work environment.
• Proven computer skills.
• Demonstrated judgment and analytical ability.
