We lead planning in the region with a Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. This includes building light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail, as well as operating GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.

The Senior Financial Analyst in the Corporate Real Estate Division is responsible for the financial and accounting impact of business processes and transactions with respect to the Division's operations and projects.

About the job

• Provides budgeting, forecasting and reporting, including variance and cost-recovery analysis with respect to Corporate Real Estate cost centres.
• Conducts and participates in various financial analyses of realty administration, projects and transactions using proper accounting treatment and appropriate financial tools
• Supports both internal and external clients with analyses and reports.
• Creates and applies reporting templates, financial models and automated processes in order to meet legal, corporate, and Division standards
• Provides subject matter expertise to support other financial professionals and activities (i.e. accountants, auditors, cost centre managers)
• Assesses the implications of new processes, systems and projects from an accounting perspective including detecting defects, limitations, cost-benefit implications and risks prior to implementation
• Monitors and maps assigned business processes paying attention to control and reporting functions and making recommendations for immediate and long term changes / improvements
• Provides internal customers, leaders and team members, with agreed upon budgeting support, reports, and analysis with accuracy while working within tight time-frames and deadlines
• Works closely with corporate finance and accounting during annual budgeting process
• Provides subject matter expertise in responding to inquiries and solving complex problems
• Conducts or takes part in financial investigations to ensure meeting or exceeding audit and legal requirements
• Tests new functionality from an accounting/financial control perspective and provides impact assessments
• Makes recommendations for process and control improvements, including automating technology or accounting practices and providing clear standards of practice, protocols and direction for internal and external partners
• Exercises due diligence and attention to detail to avoid financial, legal and reputational consequences
• Provides recommendations to protect Metrolinx financial integrity and shows stewardship of resources with innovative options and attention to revenue generation and cost savings as applicable.
• Provides subject matter expertise to non-finance Corporate Real Estate t team members and its clients, assisting in the interpretation of financial data for decision-making, and providing commentary

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Commerce or related discipline
• Must have at least one of the following designations: CA, CMA, or CGA
• 6 years' experience as a Financial Analyst and experience with Canadian GAAP principles
• Highly competent in the use of Accounting and Reporting software, e.g. Oracle, Microsoft Office (Excel)
