Challenging opportunities exist for individuals with exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to excel as an integral communication link between various field operations and offices.

Positions to be filled are:

• 3 Unilingual Temporary - Irregular On-Call, duration up to 12 months
• 1 Bilingual Temporary - Irregular On-Call, duration up to 12 months

• Irregular on-call positions are on an 'as required' basis with no guarantee of the number of hours worked - 0 to 36.25 per week.

About the job

You will:

• Maintain continuous radio contact with maintenance staff, contact emergency services to manage highway incidents;
• Utilize changeable message signs to manage incidents

During winter, you will:

• Update field staff with regular weather forecasts;
• Call for and receive road reports, record the information and;
• Prepare summary reports of road and weather conditions, winter maintenance operations, incidents and occurrences.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory:

• Proficiency in English and advanced level oral French is required for one of the on-call positions.

Tact, judgement and analytical skills:

• Ability to exercise tact, judgment, analytical and decision-making skills in dealing with a variety of highway emergency situations to implement the appropriate actions.

Customer service, interpersonal and communication skills:

• Demonstrated effective customer service, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Organizational skills:

• Ability to produce and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, manage incoming and outgoing emergency calls, road and weather reports and unusual occurrences.

Knowledge and technical skills:

• Ability to dispatch emergency services and to communicate clearly using a sophisticated two-way radio system
• Knowledge of Ontario Provincial highway network
• Ability to reference locations on a map quickly.
