About the job

The Corporate Controllership Division is seeking a senior level accounting and financial reporting candidate in carrying out controllership activities related to financial reporting, research, development and implementation of accounting policies. Under the direction of the Manager, the incumbent has responsibilities in the following areas:

Key Responsibilities

• Provides accounting and financial reporting research and advice concerning the treatment and impact of proposed initiatives and decisions on the Agency's financial statements, budget and controllership objectives
• Conducts financial analyses in support of the business operations in the assigned division, using Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards; provides subject matter expertise in analyzing and responding to inquiries and solving complex problems
• Develops accounting and financial reporting options and prepares briefing notes for discussion with senior management, auditors and other stakeholders
• Suggests and identifies the need for new research, based on various organizational initiatives and strategic directions of the Agency
• Works closely with internal and external auditors and other consultants, to maintain financial integrity of the business and increase understanding of financial applications, controls, and standards
• Reviews and analyzes contractual agreements and provides relevant accounting, business, audit and value for money advice on impact, implementation strategies and reporting Participates in year-end financial reporting activities, including preparation and co-ordination of the Annual Report

Qualifications:

• Completion of a degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Economics, Commerce or a related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
• Minimum six (6) years' experience as a financial analyst
• Experience with Canadian GAAP and PSAB principles
• Knowledge of business practices, financial analysis and reporting; understands the financial and accounting impact of business processes to evaluate current and future business activities
• Highly competent in the use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Oracle
• Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and present commentary, reports, and presentations on financial analysis to senior management to aid decision-making
• CA, CMA, CGA, MA (Economics) or MBA, would be considered an asset.
