About the job

You will:
• use your specialized education to provide ongoing comprehensive religious services and spiritual care programs to inmates, their families and staff
• create new programs and coordinate spiritual activities
• coordinate and monitor a busy and involved multi-faith program
• build relationships and partnerships with community resources
• partner with local faith communities to establish programs to help inmates reintegrate into the community
• represent chaplaincy on institution committees

What you bring to the team

Mandatory Requirements:

• you must have an endorsement from a recognized Faith Group

Specialized Knowledge:

• you have applied knowledge of various faith groups, religions, beliefs and practices
• you are familiar with correctional institutions and can work within related legislation, such as balancing confidentiality with the need to maintain security and safety for others

Other Essential Skills:

• you have established communication skills and superior interpersonal skills to interact with offenders, families and staff
• you have administrative and organizational skills to plan, organize and implement spiritual and religious care services and programs
• you can orient and train others, such as volunteers

Note:

• The successful candidate will be required to undergo a satisfactory criminal reference check prior to the commencement of employment.
• In accordance with the Ontario Public Service (OPS), Employment Screening Checks Policy (ESCP), the top candidate(s) may be required to undergo a security screening check. Refer to the above to determine the screening checks that are required for this position.
  
  You will be responsible for obtaining the criminal record check at your own expense and provide it, along with your written consent, to the Transition and Security Office (TSO), Talent Acquisition Branch (TAB), HR Service Delivery Division (HRSDD) to evaluate the results. If applicable, the TSO, with your written consent, will request and obtain any additional employment screening checks that were not obtained directly by you. (Note: If a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check is required, it must also be obtained in person at your local police service).
