About the job

• Work with and support all types of learners who are blind or have low-vision;
• Work with students who are blind or have low-vision in a multi-disciplinary setting;
• Assist in providing individual and group programs to students who are blind or have low-vision;
• Assist with physical needs of students;
• Follow up on specialized programs set up by other agencies/professionals;
• Assist in program preparation and materials.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory:

• Community College certificate and/or equivalent training, education and working experience in a child- related field;
• Current certification in CPR and First Aid.

Skills and Qualifications:

Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:

• Demonstrated experience working with children who are blind or have low-vision and may have other emotional and behavioural disorders;
• Knowledge of child development and an understanding of caring for children with learning disabilities;
• Knowledge of relevant legislation /policies /procedures /guidelines/practices that address student care and safety;
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and observation skills to identify students' needs/difficulties;
• Ability to communicate effectively with students who are blind or have low-vision in an educational setting;
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
• Ability and willingness to assist students with learning disabilities as required
