If so, this is your opportunity to lead the integration of new products, technologies and best practices related to plant pathology in the horticulture sector.
About the job
• act as the lead provincial specialist on the identification, detection and management of plant diseases in the horticulture industry
• review and assess leading-edge agricultural economic research and agricultural practices from around the world and adapt the findings to Ontario industry needs
• facilitate industry change through educational and awareness building tools such as publications, media releases, social media, speaking engagements, training workshops and one-on-one meetings with clients
• represent the ministry on provincial, national and international working groups
• lead the development of strategies to prevent and mitigate plant disease impacts on Ontario's agriculture sector
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
• In order to conduct site visits at rural and remote locations, you must have the ability to travel to areas not serviced by public transportation.
Industry knowledge:
• You have expert knowledge of the scientific theories and principles of plant pathology in horticulture crops.
• You understand the economic and environmental impacts of plant disease on the agricultural industry.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• You have analytical skills to review new research studies, agricultural practices and technologies and assess their transferability to industry in Ontario.
• You have analytical skills to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of policies, programs and services.
• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate industry issues, trends and developments.
Consultation and consensus-building skills:
• You have tact, diplomacy and consensus-building skills to build and enhance partnerships, coalitions and networks with government partners and industry stakeholders.
• You have consultation skills to evaluate the educational and training needs of agricultural clients.
Other important:
• You have communication skills to liaise with industry stakeholders, deliver presentations and prepare a variety of technical resources and reports.
• You have adult education and knowledge transfer skills to develop educational resources, tools, products and training materials.
