About the job

As the Strategic Services Intern, where will have the support of a professional and welcoming team, a hands-on manager to ensure your success and development, and you will be assigned a mentor who will help in your professional growth, you will:

• analyze and review Mines and Minerals Division (MMD) priorities and assist in developing and monitoring work plans related to key initiatives and projects
• conduct research and analysis of new developments and best practices, including the exploration of potential new tools, systems and/or mechanisms
• coordinate project daily activities, including reviewing and monitoring project progress, key deliverables, timelines and budgets
• consult and engage with divisional stakeholders, other ministries, and clients
• facilitate working groups and the development of standards, processes, tools, policies, publications and guidelines
• produce marketing and promotions plans and materials
• participate in mineral sector analysis through economic research
• undertake research to support mineral sector strategic planning and policy direction
• prepare materials and drafts of briefing notes, position papers, presentations and draft ministerial correspondence
• attend inter-departmental, federal/provincial/territorial and stakeholder meetings to acquire additional knowledge and information that supports the ministry's mineral sector policy development strategies and objectives

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must have graduated from a college or university, with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate, within the past 5 years.
• You must be an Indigenous person (i.e. First Nations, Métis, Inuit).

Project management and initiative development knowledge:

• You have knowledge of project management theories and methodologies, to assist in the planning and implementation of project activities relating to MMD business, decision-making and administrative processes.
• You have planning and organizational skills to plan, coordinate and manage initiative deliverables, balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• You have knowledge of project coordination and client/stakeholder consultation techniques.

Research, analytical, and problem-solving skills:

• You have knowledge of research techniques, data analysis and evaluative methods/techniques.
• You can assist in conducting research, information collection, and analyze and compile information/data.
• You have knowledge of performance measurement methodologies and evaluation techniques.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have demonstrated written and verbal skills to consult with various stakeholders/program managers/directors and to develop clear and concise materials and presentations ,.
• You can participate and contribute to working groups, committees and project teams.
• You have promotion and marketing skills providing the ability to develop plans and materials showcasing Ontario's investment and mineral potential.
