About the job

In this role, you will:

• lead the ministry's process for responding to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) requests and services;
• provide advice and guidance regarding information management; security provisions; records collection, retention and disclosure and appeals;
• provide advice and training to ensure clients are in compliance with legislated obligations;
• respond to requests related to complying with Open Government directives;
• interpret and apply requests and recommend responses to decision makers;
• identify contentious privacy issues and prepare briefing materials for senior management.

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of and demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
• You can apply your knowledge of the ministries mandate, programs, policies and services to provide advice regarding access requests and appeals.
• You have expert knowledge of records and information management legislation, regulations and principles.

Communication, Relationship Management and Consultation Skills:

• You have well-developed oral and written communication skills to discuss and respond to issues, present information and advice and prepare briefing materials, correspondence, reports, etc.
• You apply your relationship building, customer service and interpersonal skills to build a network of internal and external stakeholders and maintain relations with different levels of government.
• You have negotiation and consultation skills to consult with other program areas, ministries and government organizations and gain support for change recommendations.
• You have persuasion and presentation skills to influence adherence to legislation and provide effective training.
• You can deal with complex/sensitive issues with tact, discretion and diplomacy.

Organizational, Prioritization and Coordination Skills

• You demonstrate organizational abilities to coordinate responses to enquiries and issues.
• You demonstrate time management and coordination skills to prioritize workload within legislated time lines in a fast-paced environment with frequently conflicting timelines.

Research and Analytical Skills:

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate sensitive information to anticipate risks and impacts.
• You can research, identify and apply relevant precedents for requests and appeals.
