The Ministry of the Solicitor General is looking for a passionate leader committed to strengthening public safety and policing in Ontario.
As the Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Safety, you will provide executive leadership and strategic direction on matters impacting public safety and policing through the operation of the External Relations Branch, Criminal Intelligence Services Ontario, the Private Security & Investigative Services Branch, Centre of Forensic Sciences and First Nations Policing.
About the job
Reporting to the Deputy Solicitor General, Community Safety, some of the highlights the Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Safety will be responsible for are:
• Lead planning for and implementation of new policing legislation, the Community Safety and Policing Act, 1990, and associated regulations and standards.
• Working with the Federal government and First Nations communities to address the sustainability of First Nation policing.
• Engaging with diverse stakeholders and ministry partners on current and emerging issues impacting public safety and policing.

Senior Executive Leadership
• You are a seasoned leader with superior management and strategic leadership abilities to lead and influence people while promoting improved program delivery and policy development.
• You have experience leading large teams and incorporating the principles of inclusion, and diversity across all elements of service delivery.
• You are a proactive and engaging leader, who inspires their teams and others to unite around a shared vision, driving towards more inclusive and people-centred outcomes.
Operational Leadership and Change Management
• You have broad knowledge and experience in public and community safety and policing.
• You have extensive knowledge of policing organizations, including Indigenous policing organizations, and policing and public safety legislation, standards, and programs.
• You have hands-on experience in leading change initiatives.
• You are a leader who encourages innovation and questioning conventional approaches when designing and implementing new or cutting-edge programs, processes and best practices.
• You have a solid understanding of the ministry's framework and operations.
Relationship and Issues Management
• You are an influential communicator and have credibility with ministry stakeholders and partners to represent the ministry with diverse groups and in public settings.
• You have employed interest-based approaches to achieve successful outcomes with internal and external partners having competing interests.
• You can utilize your network of relationships in order to gather intelligence, seek input to problems, and promote alliances with a view to sustaining organizational excellence.
• You have proven political acuity and ability to manage complex issues within an organization with high public profile and scrutiny.
