About the job
In this exciting position, you will:
• create an organizational focus for the development, implementation and evaluation of wood supply strategies and restructuring initiatives
• consult with internal and external stake holders regarding existing wood supply strategies and development
• undertake complex projects and assignments to address provincial forest industry wood supply issues
• provide expert advice, analysis and support to Ministry staff, and representatives of the forest industry and related associations in Ontario
• provide advice on implementation and delivery of provincial forest management planning and forest management programs
• participate in policy reviews and revisions and develop, implement and maintain wood supply databases and information management systems
• conduct presentations to forest industry groups and other stakeholders
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• You must possess a valid class G driver's license, or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
Technical knowledge:
• You have thorough knowledge of and proven experience with forest resource management principles and practices in Ontario, including forest tenure and harvesting systems, mill products and processing systems.
• You possess extensive knowledge of Ontario's forestry sector and it's economic significance, emerging trends and competitiveness to interpret the significance of forest company/industry developments to include in analyses.
• You are highly proficient and have experience using computer programs and databases (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point) to generate reports and data for review by senior management and staff coupled with an advanced ability to use mapping/Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and a familiarity with web application development.
Communications and facilitation skills:
• You possess proven experience communicating difficult and complex ideas clearly and effectively with tact and diplomacy both orally and in writing, in order to inform and/or guide staff, senior management and stakeholders.
• You have proven facilitation, negotiation and consensus building skills to resolve issues with staff and stakeholders and to foster and maintain new and existing relationships.
• You possess strong communication skills to provide expert advice and recommendations to senior management and staff.
Problem solving and situational judgement
• You have proven experience in prioritizing concerns/issues and identifying potential alternative approaches in order to recommend the most appropriate course of action.
• You possess political acuity to examine and strategically plan projects and initiatives for the Ministry on forestry related issues/subjects.
Interpersonal and collaboration skills:
• You possess demonstrated leadership and team building skills to deliver results, collaborate with partners and maintain positive working relationships.
• You have interpersonal skills to be able to give presentations to various sector groups and stakeholders to effectively gain support on programs, initiatives and projects.
Strategic planning, organization and coordination skills:
• You have well-developed organization, planning and project management skills to plan, coordinate and direct complex projects.
