About the job
As a Social Worker, you will:
• Formulate discharge plans in full collaboration with professionals and offenders
• Provide crisis intervention services
• Prepare and maintain assessments and statistical reports
• Develop and operate in-house rehabilitative programs and Accredited Core Rehabilitative Programs
• Participate in social work research activities and evaluate treatment programs and services
• Provide social work consultation and training to staff
What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements
• You are registered as a Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
Social Work Knowledge and Experience
• You have in-depth knowledge of and experience in the application of clinical social work theories, principles and practices normally acquired through a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work
• You can develop rehabilitative treatment plans from a social work and psychosocial rehabilitation perspective
• You have experience conducting individual/group therapy and crisis intervention
• You have knowledge of community support services to assist offenders in formulating discharge plans
• You are able to work with offenders in protective custody
Superior Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You can provide individual counselling, evaluation, and assessment services to offenders with complex needs
• You are able adjust your communication in order to connect and build rapport with a diverse client population with varied cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds
• You have experience working within a multi-disciplinary setting including community agencies
• You have proven tact, discretion and sensitivity to discuss problems/options with offenders and maintain confidentiality
Strong Assessment, Analytical, Problem-Solving Skills
• You can assess client needs and apply appropriate intervention and program treatment services
• You are able to resolve conflict and issues
• You have organizational skills to manage conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain records
• You are able to interpret relevant legislation and policies (i.e. Ministry of Correctional Services Act, FIPPA, etc.)
• You can acquire knowledge of and follow institutional policies, procedures, rules of confidentiality, program support services and risk assessment tools
Computer Skills
• You are proficient with computers and related software to input and retrieve offender data, prepare reports and maintain case documentation and statistics
