If you're a geoscientist looking for a new challenge, consider this role with the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines where you will work with a team of geoscientists and other professionals to deliver geoscience information to important land use planning processes.

About the job

You will also:

• work with municipal planners and provincial ministries to bring a broad range of geoscience information and expertise to the planning table
• work with Aboriginal communities to provide an understanding of the role of geoscience in land use planning and participate in Community Based Land Use Planning with Aboriginal Communities in the Far North
• represent the ministry's interests in land use planning and promote the use of geoscience information by participating on committees and at public information sessions, and monitoring and commenting on land use policy

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must be a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with the Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or with another regulated association of geoscientists.
• You possess a valid driver's licence to conduct field work and ability to travel and work irregular hours.

Specialized knowledge:

• demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience related to geoscience and mineral exploration principles and practices

Communication, interpersonal and people skills:

• demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal, consultation, negotiation, and presentation skills

Other important skills:

• proven reasoning and analytical skills to help develop and implement new regulations, policies, practices, and procedures
• proven research and evaluation skills to research and assess provincial legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to private and Crown lands
• demonstrated ability to identify critical factors in work-related situations and make informed recommendations based on research and analysis
• ability to operate word-processing, database, spreadsheet and digital presentation computer applications, and to at least understand the value and usage of GIS-based data management systems

NOTE: The successful candidate will occasionally be required to travel by small aircraft to remote locations.
