About the job

You will also:

• work with municipal planners and provincial ministries to bring a broad range of geoscience information and expertise to the planning table
• work with Indigenous communities to provide an understanding of the role of geoscience in land use planning
• represent the Ministry's interests in land use planning and promote the use of geoscience information by participating on committees and at public information sessions, and monitoring and commenting on land use policy

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You must be a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or with another regulated association of geoscientists.
• You possess a valid driver's licence to conduct field work and ability to travel and work irregular hours.

Technical expertise:

• demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience related to geoscience and mineral exploration principles and practices
• knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply relevant Ministry/provincial and federal government land-use administration and planning legislation, policies, practices and procedures related to both public and private lands in Ontario

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• demonstrated communication skills to deliver effective consultations and advice, and to present information
• interpersonal skills that allow you to negotiate through disputes and build solid working relationships
• demonstrated written communication skills to prepare reports, briefing materials, make presentations and correspondence with executives and senior management

Analytical skills:

• proven reasoning and analytical skills to help develop and implement new regulations, policies, practices, and procedures
• proven research and evaluation skills to research and assess provincial legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to private and Crown lands
• demonstrated ability to identify critical factors in work-related situations and make informed recommendations based on research and analysis

Computer proficiency:

• proficiency using common office productivity software, such as word-processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation applications, and to at least understand the value and usage of GIS-based data management systems

NOTE: The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel by small aircraft to remote locations.
