Are you a strong leader who can motivate a team to meet deadlines and deliverables? Do you have archival expertise? If so, consider this opportunity as a Senior Archivist!
Bring your project management skills and knowledge of archival theories and best practices to the Information Privacy and Archives Division to acquire and manage records of high evidential, informational and legal value, documenting the key activities and decisions of the Government of Ontario and the development of Ontario society.
About the job
You will:
• Provide team and group leadership to archivists and archival staff for functional/cross functional projects;
• Independently plan and develop strategies and determine scheduling priorities;
• Provide expert advice on archival practices to management and staff;
• Appraise and acquire archival records from government and private sources;
• Arrange and describe records according to institutional standards;
• Provide comprehensive reference services to clients;
• Lead and coordinate outreach activities with client groups and provincial organizations, and universities, including speaking engagements, & orientation materials.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
• You must be able to lift and move 35-50lb containers of archival material.
Leadership and Coordination Skills:
• You have knowledge of project management skills to lead, coordinate, set priorities and deliverables and work with minimal supervision.
• You demonstrate effective time management skills and good judgement to guide other staff and organize, plan and coordinate.
• You can lead and coordinate outreach activities, including orientations, workshops and speaking engagements.
•You can provide team and group leadership for functional or cross-functional projects.
Communication and Customer Service Skills:
• You demonstrate oral and written communication skills to explain complex and technical subject matter to a diverse clientele and prepare briefing notes and appraisal reports for management approval with required timelines.
• You have strong customer service, interpersonal and negotiation skills to respond effectively to complex inquiries and to work collaboratively across the Division on initiatives to promote public awareness.
Technical Archival Knowledge:
• You have sound knowledge and experience in archival appraisal, acquisition, arrangement and description, preservation and access issues.
• You have advanced knowledge of archival theory and practice including Rules for Archival Description.
• You demonstrate the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of legislation governing access and use of Ontario government records (e.g. Archives and Recordkeeping Act, FIPPA, Copyright Act).
Other Essential Knowledge/Skills:
• You have sound knowledge of Ontario history and the history structure and functions of the Ontario government.
• You understand IT to analyze and advise on archival value of existing, proposed and obsolete electronic systems content.
