About the job

In this role you will:

• Manage and coordinate the delivery of professional real estate services including appraisal, negotiations, and property sales, leasing and interim management on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid class 'G' license or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario

Technical Knowledge

• You have a thorough knowledge of Ontario real estate practices, legislation, contract law, common law, and real-estate law
• You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant case law and precedents; sections of the Expropriations Act, Planning Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act; and government policies/directives
• You have knowledge of property appraisal standards, practices, techniques and methods to estimate values for compensation purposes, as well as, viable and non-viable holdings for disposition
• You have thorough knowledge of and experience in applying theories and practices of negotiations, disposals and interim management of land
• You have the ability to read and interpret legal descriptions; survey plans, contract and engineering drawings to ensure appropriate properties are acquired, leased, and/or sold
• You have sound knowledge consultants/contractor procurement and management sufficient to effectively hire, monitor and evaluate consultants/contractor

Interpersonal & Communication Skills

• You have excellent written communication skills to prepare in-depth narrative appraisals and reports, prepare correspondence to the public and provide written documentation on consultant performance
• You have excellent oral communication skills including empathetic listening to explain, discuss, negotiate, and resolve with property owners and/or their professional/legal representative(s), contractors, other ministry officials, municipal representatives, and mediation panels

Negotiation Skills

• You have proven negotiation skills to negotiate with property owners, and their legal representatives for the acquisition of lands and/or the negotiations required to effect sale/lease with prospective purchasers/tenants

Analytical & Problem Solving Skills

• You have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve contentious issues, clarifying compensation, mitigate construction and inspection related problems
