About the job

In this exciting role, you will:

• audit mine closure plans and submissions
• assess compliance with the Mining Act by inspecting, monitoring and investigating environmental pollution and public safety issues on mining properties
• inspect mining properties to ensure proper and/or scheduled installation and implementation of rehabilitation measures
• provide technical expertise and advice on compliance
• negotiate and enforce compliance with submission and revision of closure plans
• collect evidence and participate in court proceedings

Note: This position requires the ability to work in all types of weather conditions and work irregular hours.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Technical Expertise:

• You have thorough knowledge of mining and exploration, mining processes and associated pollution controls, rehabilitation measures and acid mine/rock drainage treatments.
• You have knowledge of the Mining Act, Mine Rehabilitation Code and related environmental legislation as well as the theories, principles and practices related to mine rehabilitation and recognized site assessment and remedial practices.
• You have knowledge of project management theories and techniques to oversee mine rehabilitation projects as well as contract management, purchasing/tendering procedures and preparation of Requests for Proposals.
• You have sound knowledge of issues management theories and techniques.
• You have knowledge of rules of evidence and court procedures to conduct inspections, investigations and support legal proceedings.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You have the ability to identify the cause and source of pollution problems and analyze various factors to develop a course of action.
• You can interpret scientific and technical data, legislation and policies.
• You can assess issues and problems and recommend solutions.
• You are able to review the content of submissions to determine if accurate, complete and in compliance with policies and regulations.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have well-developed oral communication skills to make presentations, explain interpretation of scientific and technical information and persuade people to take corrective action.
• You can conduct interviews and provide testimony in court proceedings.
• You have proven written communication skills to prepare letters, technical reports and briefing notes.
• Using your interpersonal skills, you can facilitate discussions and resolve conflicts between multi-stakeholders.
