Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) plays a key role in the province's occupational health and safety system. The WSIB administers no-fault workplace insurance for employers and their workers and is committed to the prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses.
The Strategic Communications, Policy and Research (SCPR) of the WSIB is looking for a Director, Communications and Public Affairs. This newly created position will be responsible for the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of effective and innovative communications, issues management, and stakeholder relations to ensure staff and stakeholder understanding of WSIB programs and services, and to build and enhance the WSIB brand.
About the job
Plan and direct the day-to-day operation and administration of the Communications and Public Affairs Branch with a management team to ensure the effective and timely delivery of programs, products and services by the Creative Services, Communications and Public Affairs, and New Media areas of the branch; provide strategic advice, expertise and leadership to the Vice President, SCPR and WSIB Senior Management team on external stakeholder relations opportunities and risks, strategic communications, issues management, media relations, public affairs and new media.

Mandatory requirements
degree in communications, public relations or journalism with a minimum of 10 years experience in communications management in a high profile organization; political savvy and sensitivity with ability to think strategically; experience in working with traditional and new media channels; superior interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills;
strong team player with a positive attitude and ability to collaborate, ability to build professional and productive relationships, lead teams and develop, coach and motivate staff; flexible self-starter willing to take initiative and deliver results under tight time constraints.
