About the job

You will:
• Develop and implement a provincial aviation safety program
• Ensure compliance with aviation safety programs, procedures and guidelines
• Promote aviation safety and maintain aviation safety standards
• Conduct risk assessments and audits of all specialized aviation programs
• Conduct occurrence investigations across Ontario
• Provide safety and investigation training (extensive travel)

What you bring to the team


Mandatory Requirement:

• Valid class G driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of safety management systems, hazard risk assessments, incident/hazard reporting and investigation systems
• Ability to interpret and apply regulations and acts such as Federal Aeronautics Act, Canadian Air regulations
• Ability to interpret and apply ministry policies and procedures and mandatory standards and requirements for commercial and private air carriers
• Knowledge of flight and aircraft maintenance gained through operational experience

Analytical and Evaluative Skills:

• Demonstrated evaluative skills to investigate the root causes of aviation accidents/incidents
• Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments (i.e. determining which commercial air operators require a safety audit)
• Analytical and problem solving skills to solve complex user needs and identify safety deficiencies
• Demonstrated experience in aviation safety and proven ability to integrate aviation requirements and safety practices into one seamless program

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Verbal communication skills to consult, liaise and deal tactfully with the media, commercial air operators, provincial agencies and federal government agencies
• Ability to utilize communication and interpersonal skills to lead seminars and training sessions and consult with management
• Written communication skills to conduct audits of approved commercial air operators, identify deficiencies and recommend improvements

Negotiation, Problem Solving and Consultative Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to provide advice and feedback to commercial air operators and make recommendations for improvements
• Negotiation and consultation skills to deal effectively with aviation personnel, commercial air operators and Transport Canada officials

General Skills:

• Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and act in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines
• Ability to make time sensitive decisions
