About the job
In this position, you will:
• Perform and assess engineering surveys, control surveys and other data collection for the planning, design, construction and operation of transportation facilities
• Perform and assess legal surveys for the acquisition and disposal of property
• Communicate with direct reports, public, landowners, municipalities, other ministries and agencies
• Explain purposes and requirements for a variety of surveys and acquire and exchange information
• Direct a survey crew and collect and record survey data in manual and/or automated format
• Complete or verify mathematical computations
Note: The position requires working outdoors in rough terrain and requires overnight/extended stays away from home.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
• You have knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of engineering, control and legal surveying, and related standards, statutes and regulations
• You have knowledge of mathematics and computer survey applications
• You have ability to operate a variety of survey equipment
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and guidelines as they apply to survey crews
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
• You are able to interpret, evaluate and effectively resolve problems
• You can analyze and evaluate survey evidence, data, reports, title searches, perform mathematical survey computations, and implement applicable survey methodologies
• You can respond to survey problems, and decide upon most efficient and effective course of action
Supervisory and Organizational Skills:
• You are able to supervise staff and delegate work
• You can prioritize tasks based on data availability, weather, traffic volumes
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• You are able to respond to inquiries from the general public and resolve conflicts with property owners and ministry staff using effective communication and interpersonal skills
