About the job
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented, highly motivated individual to work with established provincial research scientists to conduct forest research and analysis. As a forest research intern, you could expect to assist with the following tasks:
• Analyzing data and interpreting scientific literature.
• Preparing written reports and peer reviewed manuscripts in support of research priorities based on data analysis, literature review and expert opinion.
• Transferring scientific knowledge and information through various means including presentations.
• Collecting field data if required, traveling to locations throughout Ontario.
What you bring to the team
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
• A solid foundation in field and theoretical knowledge of one or more of the following: forest ecology, soils, silviculture, forest health and forest genetics to prepare written reports and peer reviewed manuscripts and possibly assist in field data collection.
• Knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed.
Analytical and Research Skills
• Demonstrated ability to conduct and apply scientific research, publish in scientific literature, and collaborate with academia and other agency peers to deliver scientific research.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to make project-level decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with project team members and research partners from various backgrounds to meet project deliverables and goals.
Computer Skills
• Working knowledge of the Windows operating system to provide statistical summaries and produce reports using Microsoft computer software packages (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to use data base management and statistical software packages.

Eligibility:
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
• Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four year
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past
