About the job

As the Strategic Services Intern, you will have the support of a professional and welcoming team; a hands-on manager to ensure your success and development; and you will be assigned a mentor who will help in your professional growth. In your role, you will:

• analyze and review Mines and Minerals Division (MMD) priorities and assist in developing and monitoring work plans related to key initiatives and projects
• conduct research and analysis of new developments and best practices, including the exploration of potential new tools, systems and/or mechanisms
• coordinate project daily activities, including reviewing and monitoring project progress, key deliverables, timelines and budgets
• consult and engage with divisional stakeholders, other ministries, and clients
• facilitate working groups and the development of standards, processes, tools, policies, publications and guidelines
• produce marketing and promotions plans and materials
• participate in mineral sector analysis through economic research
• undertake research to support mineral sector strategic planning and policy direction
• prepare materials and drafts of briefing notes, position papers, presentations and draft ministerial correspondence
• attend inter-departmental, federal/provincial/territorial and stakeholder meetings to acquire additional knowledge and information that supports the ministry's mineral sector policy development strategies and objectives

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You must have graduated from a college or university, with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate, within the past 5 years.
• You must be an Indigenous person (i.e. First Nations, Métis, Inuit).

Project management and initiative development knowledge:

• You have project management and initiative development knowledge and experience.
• You have knowledge of project management methodologies, to assist in the planning and implementation of project activities and program development relating to divisional business, decision-making and administrative processes.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You possess verbal communication skills to consult and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders/colleagues/leadership.
• You have the ability to lead, facilitate and contribute to working groups, gather input/feedback and make presentations to a wide audience
• You have written communication skills to develop clear and concise briefing notes, policy documents, initiative plans, process maps, presentation materials and communication tools.

Research, analytical and problem-solving skills:

• You have the ability to conduct thorough research, analyze and compile information/data.
• You have the ability to define and assess complex and diverse issues, make recommendations, and develop strategies.
• You have knowledge of performance measurement methodologies and evaluation techniques.

Planning and organizational skills:

• You have planning and organizational skills to plan, coordinate and manage deliverables, balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines, and perform day-to-day functions with relative independence.
