Launch your engineering design career with the Ministry of Transportation! Join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team responsible for the delivery of design plans, reports, contracts and tender packages for the construction and rehabilitation of the province's transportation infrastructure

The Ministry of Transportation is undergoing a transformation and will implement a new organizational model. The ministry will move from five divisions to a total of seven divisions. Five of these divisions will be new, with branches that are organized in different ways and deliver on new priorities. The goal of the new structure is to better support the strategic directions set out in the MTO One strategy and help us meet the demands of an ever-changing transportation landscape. Together, we are working towards a strong transportation future.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• assist in design projects for transportation infrastructure
• identify information requirements and assemble the information
• investigate design alternatives and prepare designs
• make highway design recommendations
• prepare highway designs and related plans
• carry out detailed design drainage studies
• assist in preparing final contract and tender documents
• calculate quantities and cost estimates
• support senior designers and project management staff in reviewing corridor management issues
• prepare presentation materials, correspondence, and assist in preparation of reports

What you bring to the team


Engineering design knowledge and skills:

• You have knowledge of highway planning and design principles and contract estimating.
• You have knowledge of construction and engineering survey practices.

Computer proficiency:

• You can use specialized software related to the highway planning and design process, such as AutoCad, Softdesk, and InRoads.
• You can use standard word processors, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have effective written and oral communications skills to work effectively within the design team and prepare reports.

Analytical skills:

• You can interpret data, address design issues and investigate design alternatives.
