As the Senior Manager, Provincial Mining Health Safety, you will work to develop strategies and policies which meet the ministry's objectives for the safe development of mines and other surface and underground operations.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Oversee and manage the planning, development, evaluation and implementation of strategic program frameworks to support delivery, transformation and change management initiatives of ministry programs and the regulatory mandate to meet ministry/OPS strategic goals.
• Act as the provincial leader for mining in the division and serve as a liaison between corporate and field staff.
• Ensure the overall compliance with legislative statutes, collective agreements, government and ministry policies, directives, guidelines and commitments related to programs and services.
• Provide expertise and advice to ministry senior management and staff on program development and implementation options, recommendations, risks and issues management strategies.
• Establish consultative and communication networks with system partners and external stakeholders and clients at the provincial and federal levels.

Mandatory requirements

• Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

• You have knowledge of other related initiatives i.e. the Safe At Work Ontario strategy.
• You can apply relevant legislation and regulations and/or investigations processes and techniques for program delivery to oversee the monitoring of activities for adherence and compliance to the Act and regulations.

Program Management Skills:

• You are able to provide direction and project management oversight to the development of program strategy and framework to support the delivery of key government/ministry policy and regulatory mandate.
• You can anticipate or recognise operational and related engineering policy needs and implement change, as required.
• You have the skills and experience to plan, develop and manage various projects and initiatives and ensure they are completed within set timeframes.
• You have knowledge of budgetary and financial processes to prepare and implement fiscal and performance budgets, and multi-year and annual work plans, and monitor/report on budget allocations.
• You can analyze and interpret findings and make appropriate decisions.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You have sound communication skills to establish networks with system partners and external clients at the provincial and federal levels.
• You have interpersonal skills to deal with staff, clients and the general public.
• You have advanced writing skills to prepare minister letters, briefing notes, professional reports, policies and proposed legislation.
