About the job

• Provide rehabilitative services to offenders to assist in their adjustment upon returning to the community
• Organize resources to effectively deliver programs as a sole facilitator, by marketing the program to offenders
• Enroll offenders to participate in programs and ensure that physical resources are in place to deliver the program
• Write case notes and input program tracking reports in Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS) in appropriate timeframe
• Submit statistical information to Deputy Superintendent, Treatment
• Complete classifications of offenders
• Gather information for and prepare Temporary Absence Permits
• Assist in the scheduling/coordination of fee-for-service providers
• Interview and respond to offender requests
• Facilitate referrals to assist in discharge planning
• Participate in meetings and committees
• Assist in the orientation, training and supervision of new staff, volunteers and students
• Provide information, write reports, and advise senior management
• Other duties as required

What you bring to the team

Program Facilitation Knowledge and Experience

• You have expertise in group facilitation and theories related to the rehabilitation of offenders, normally acquired through post secondary education in social work or a related field
• You have strong group facilitation skills to effectively facilitate, instruct, and deliver rehabilitative programs
• You have demonstrated interviewing techniques to obtain information from offenders and community contacts to assess offender needs, motivation and suitability for placements
• You have knowledge of community agencies and resources to assist in discharge planning

Specialized Knowledge

• You have understanding of the justice system, court processes and court documentation
• You are able to understand and apply relevant legislation such as the Ministry of Correctional Services Act
• You have knowledge of programs and strategies focusing on criminogenic risk factors and risk/needs assessment relating to the classification process (pertaining to programs such as the Temporary Absence Program, Intermittent Community Work Program and offender work programs)

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

• You are able to work with and provide services to offenders in a correctional environment
• You can interact and exchange client information with professionals and correctional administrators

Analytical, Investigative, and Evaluative Skills

• You can obtain information and make recommendations based on established criteria
• You can assess suitability of offenders for participation in various rehabilitative programs
• You have organizational skills to prioritize and complete work in a timely fashion
• You can manage the coordination/scheduling of programs

Computer Skills

• You are able to use information/tracking systems and software packages to input/retrieve offender data, prepare and maintain reports and statistics
