In this role, you will be part of a regional and corporate team of professionals consisting of: occupational hygiene consultants, ergonomists, engineers, radiation specialists and medical consultants.

About the job
In this role, you will:
• get an opportunity to gain a breadth of experience in ergonomic workplace design and evaluation and provide professional advice and consultation on related issues and hazards
• visit various types of industrial, construction, healthcare and mining work sites to conduct inspections and investigations
• collect scientific data of an ergonomic nature and analyze how the job is performed based on the measurements taken and the types of injuries incurred
• enforce occupational health and safety legislation
• provide consultation, advice, recommendations to Ministry inspectors and workplace representatives
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You have certification from the Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists (CCCPE), or Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics, (BCPE), or equivalent.
Technical knowledge:
• You have advanced knowledge, understanding and training in the subspecialties of ergonomics such as kinesiology, human kinetics, psychology, physiology, biomechanics and/or equivalent experience in occupational ergonomics.
• You have fulsome understanding and training in ergonomic analysis techniques and tools, occupational ergonomic research and observation.
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and relevant policies, standards and practices to identify and evaluate occupational health and safety hazards.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You have advanced communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear advice and recommendations, and to correspond effectively with colleagues, clients, management, labour groups and other stakeholders.
• You have proven dispute/conflict resolution skills to resolve issues and disputes between labour and management in highly confrontational or adversarial situations.
• You are able to establish productive working relations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• You have proven written communication skills to prepare technical ergonomic reports.
Analytical skills:
• You have keen powers of observation, analytical abilities and attention to detail, combined with investigative techniques to conduct field audits in a wide variety of workplaces, some of which may be hostile or hazardous.
• You have the ability to work independently under minimal supervision and use tact and good judgement to make recommendations in situations where a great deal of ambiguity exists.
Investigation and compliance knowledge:
• You have knowledge of investigative techniques to carry out inspections and investigations at workplaces, interview worker and employer representatives, and gather all relevant information and evidence.
• You have an understanding of court/inquest procedures, processes and practices to submit information for legal action and appear in court/at inquests as an expert witness.
Computer proficiency:
• You have proficiency using computers and common office productivity software, such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc.
• You can effective use ergonomic analysis programs, in order to develop data from investigations and inspections, and perform ergonomic analyses.
