Bring your creativity and innovation along with your technical expertise and experience to the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Operations and Deployment Section, Ministry of Transportation, where you will provide technical and project leadership and direction to a professional team involved in the design, construction and operation of Intelligent Transportation Systems and connected and automated vehicles (CAV) technologies and applications.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide senior project engineering services with respect to the planning, design, and implementation of ITS technologies through conventional design-bid-build projects or through private-public-partnership (PPP) projects.
• be involved in the evaluation of emerging Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Connected Vehicle / Autonomous Vehicle (CVAV) technologies and applications
• develop policies and strategies related to operations of MTO Traffic Management Systems (COMPASS) within the province
• provide expert advisory services to senior management on innovative solutions in incident and event management
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Technical Skills:
You have:
• project management techniques required to manage projects of large size and complexity
• knowledge of theories, principles and practices of civil engineering with specialization in traffic engineering and working knowledge of related fields including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, and construction practices
• knowledge of traffic, electronics and communication theories, principles and practices
• knowledge of procurement and contract law/management policies, procedures and practices
Communication and Interpresonal Skills:
You have communication and interpersonal skills to:
• prepare detailed technical reports and make presentations
• develop reports, materials and provide recommendations to senior management on project schedules and resource requirements
• negotiate contract changes on construction projects, with clients/stakeholders
• to establish and maintain effective working relationships both inside the ministry and outside at all levels of the organizations
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
You have analytical and problem-solving skills to:
• research and conduct investigations into equipment and systems
• review, assess and prepare cost estimates for consultant assignments and capital projects
• conduct cost-benefit and risk analysis to provide accurate assessments and resource estimates
• provide innovative solutions to resolve or alleviate advanced traffic management problems
Leadership Skills:
• You are able to provide technical direction and leadership to project team members, engineers, including consulting engineers and contractors involved in advanced traffic management
