About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide technical, operational, monitoring and group leadership duties
• lead student staff by assisting with hiring, target setting, training, assigning tasks and evaluating skills
• organize, schedule, deliver and evaluate a variety of cultural, recreational and natural environment programs to park visitors
• organize and prepare displays, pamphlets, general information and notices of program
• interpret, manage and inventory historical artifacts and buildings
• collect and organize statistics, prepare annual operating strategies and year end reports
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule.
• You have the ability to achieve certification in public speaking and/or heritage interpretation.
• You have the ability to work in inclement weather.
Interpretive knowledge:
• knowledge of interpretive principles, techniques, and common practices, as well as innovation and creativity to develop and implement new interpretive programs and facilities
Technical knowledge:
• knowledge of the native and invasive flora, fauna, geology, meteorology and astronomy of Ontario
• knowledge of standard ecological principles, theories and procedures
• knowledge of natural and cultural resource protection principles and procedures as they apply to provincial parks
Communication and leadership skills:
• group leadership and interpersonal skills to provide direction to park staff by assigning work, explaining work methods, monitoring performance and ensuring continuity in services
• public relations skills to effectively deal with contentious issues and communicate with media representatives
• strong communication skills to disseminate complex scientific information to a variety of audiences, provide excellent customer service and deliver great presentations
Organizational skills:
• coordination skills to assign, manage and utilize resources and staff effectively
• organizational skills to develop and implement procedures; to organize own workload; and to meet established deadlines
Computer and equipment proficiency:
• proficient with office productivity software such as word processing, spreadsheets, email and presentation applications, as well as, graphics applications and social media
• ability to operate and maintain audio-visual and photography equipment, information kiosks, interpretive displays and other communication devices
