Beautiful Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park gets its name from the 40 metre high Kakabeka Falls within the park limits. The falls are the second highest waterfall in Ontario with year round access for viewing. The park allows for excellent views of the falls and gorge from the boardwalk that wraps around the top of the falls. The Kaministiquia River which feeds the falls is cut deep into the rocks to reveal 1.6 million year old fossils at the bottom of the falls. The paths leading to the falls are also part of the historic route of that the Voyageurs took. The park surrounds the endangered Lake Sturgeon spawn at the base of the falls. In the park you can walk the abundant nature trails in summer and you can enjoy the groomed cross-country ski trails. Come visit Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• perform a variety of skilled trades duties associated with construction, repair, maintenance and operation of the park
• provide monitoring, training and group leadership duties for the park maintenance program, staff and students
• ensure park operating/capital maintenance standards are maintained
• purchase materials and stock, maintain inventory levels, obtain quotes and estimates

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• ability to obtain a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate
• must have a valid class 'G' Driver's Licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario
• ability to obtain a Water Treatment Certificate
• ability to work shifts, weekend and statutory holidays, as required

Technical knowledge and skills:

• knowledge of semi-skilled tasks associated with skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive and HVAC
• knowledge of the operation and maintenance of provincial park facilities and support services, such as campsites, comfort stations, hydro, gas, solar electric generation and propane appliances
• knowledge of water and sewage systems operation and maintenance as per Ministry of the Environment and Health standards
• knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of powered equipment, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors, chlorinating systems, lawnmowers, boats and small hand tools
• ability to work from simple blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, operating and code (i.e. electrical, plumbing, building) manuals

Group leadership and interpersonal skills:

• ability to provide training and group leadership to a seasonal workforce of fixed-term staff and students
• interpersonal skills to work as part of a team and lead staff and students

Specific knowledge:

• knowledge of parks programs, services and operating regulations
• knowledge of purchasing and accounting policies, procedures and best business practices
• knowledge of park emergency plans, evacuation plans, and procedures

Computer proficiency:

• ability to use personal computers including word processing, record keeping, electronic mail and internet software applications
