About us:
The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, and other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Plan, lead, coordinate and manage an effective and efficient response and support program that minimizes the effects of fire on human life, property and natural resources.
• Work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to ensure overall program planning, coordination and integration.
• Provide technical and operational expertise to staff involved in fire operations throughout the region.
• Train staff and ensure they are working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, as well as ministry and divisional policies and protocols.
• Serve as a member of the provincial fire management team by participating in the development and implementation of long term fire management strategies and operating plans.

Mandatory requirements

• You possess a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

• You have experience providing strategic direction, guidance and coaching to staff and/or project teams.

Technical Expertise:

• You have the ability to provide and ensure the provision of technical and operational expertise, advice and direction to personnel at all levels involved in fire operations throughout the region.
• Specialized knowledge regarding fire management, fire response, aerial operations, ground fire suppression and prevention.
• You have extensive knowledge of natural resource management principles, techniques, acts, regulations, policies and ministry/government direction as well as federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
• You can apply relevant legislation and regulations and/or investigations processes and techniques for program delivery to oversee the monitoring of activities for adherence and compliance to the Act and regulations.
• You have the ability to provide technical and operational expertise, advice and direction to personnel at all levels involved in fire operations throughout the region.
• You have sound judgement and political acuity skills to provide authoritative advice and guidance to senior management.

Program Management Skills:

• You have knowledge and expertise in project management principles and methodologies to manage the delivery of program plans, initiatives and goals.
• You have an advanced knowledge of standards and policy development and the ministry's decision making process.
• You have knowledge of comptrollership and financial management principles and the ability to develop and implement cost effective fire contracts and various agreements.
• You have the ability manage the implementation of standards, guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure effective communications are maintained internally and with contractors and stakeholders to support fire operations.

Communication and Stakeholder Relationship Management Skills:

• You have proven ability to manage the implementation of standards, guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure effective communications are maintained internally and with contractors and stakeholders to support fire operations.
• You have proven communication, conflict management and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
• You have the ability to prepare or oversee the preparation of briefing material and reports.
• You have the ability to respond to fire management issues, complaints and contentious issues with tact and diplomacy.
• You have superior oral communication, consultation and presentation skills to provide technical guidance, advice and education.
