The Ministry of the Solicitor General is modernizing Ontario's correctional system, putting safety, protection and security first. We need great strategic leaders who will engage staff, champion change, foster a culture that is rooted in diversity, inclusion, and help establish and drive programs to meet government priorities for a progressive new approach to the correctional services.
We need two strong leaders with the exceptional ability to adapt to changing circumstances and maintain positive and engaging relations with staff and stakeholders. As a Superintendent you will champion an institutional vision and showcase your strategic mindset, human resources skills and expert corrections knowledge, while providing leadership and oversight of the operation and administration of the institution. You will make an important contribution to the community and to public safety and security through the oversight of care, custody, control and rehabilitation of inmates.
We currently seek Superintendents at the following locations:
• Stratford Jail
• Sarnia Jail

What you bring to the team
Leadership and Management Skills
• You can communicate and champion a compelling vision for the delivery of programs and services that support the security, safety and treatment of offenders.
• You demonstrate strong leadership skills to build effective teams, hold staff accountable, and provide coaching and mentoring.
• You have demonstrated experience in managing the resolution of contentious and/or challenging operational, management, and labour relations issues.
• You have a strong understanding of and experience managing human resources including recruitment, talent management, organizational design, succession planning and labour relations.
• You have strong financial planning skills to prepare business plans, and manage and control institution's budgets.
•You demonstrate good judgment and the ability to delegate tasks or responsibilities to Sergeants within the institution.
Relationship Management and Communication Skills
• You can communicate effectively and convey knowledge of correctional practices and programs through verbal and written communications.
• You have the ability to foster positive partnerships and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including diverse social service agencies, Indigenous, religious and cultural groups within the community.
Strategic Thinking and Crisis Management Skills
• You have proven experience in and knowledge of crisis management techniques to successfully manage challenging situations.
• You demonstrate the ability to maintain self-control in high stress situations while providing guidance and direction to staff.
• You can provide strategic advice on issues which impact the effectiveness of the institution, and provide recommendations to senior regional management on contentious issues that may have political implications or an impact on public safety.
Operations and Program Delivery Experience
• You have expert knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of correctional institutions management and administration, and a strong understanding of correctional policies and legislation.
• You have proven ability to develop organizational performance standards and measures that evaluate the effectiveness of current policies, standards and practices and address organizational issues.
• You demonstrate a strong understanding of current issues and trends within the correctional system, and can apply this knowledge to program development and the delivery of services.
