About the job
• Provide a variety of library services including organizing/maintaining the institution's collection of books and other reading and reference materials
• Contribute to the development and implementation of new library services and reading programs
• Assist inmates and staff with inquiries, provide information on library services and programs, as well as deliver books to inmate units
• Maintain a manual and/or automated circulation system
• Maintain organization and coordination of facility's collection of books, take inventory, make purchases for the library, and perform minor book repairs
• Promote and align the library program with the goals of the institution
• Ensure the safety and security of the library work area
• Liaise with institutional and professional staff as well as supervise inmate helpers
• Other duties as required

What you bring to the team
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
• You have demonstrated experience in operating, maintaining, and providing a variety of library services including knowledge of relevant processes and best practices
• You are able to coordinate a library program that meets the leisure and therapeutic needs of inmates
• You have experience with circulation, referencing, cataloguing, inter-library loaning, and minor repairs of library materials
Analytical, Research, and Organizational Skills
• You can assess inmates' library/reading needs and develop a library program that is aligned with the rehabilitative goals of the institution
• You are able to select suitable reading materials that meet individual inmate needs
• You can catalogue and maintain inventory of library materials
• You can effectively plan and manage own work
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You can maintain working relationships with inmates and staff
• You can provide information to library users on the borrowing process and reading programs
• You have writing skills to prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain library stock records
• You have demonstrated tact and courtesy to respond to user requests and supervise inmate helpers
Other Skills
• You are able to understand and comply with organizational policies and procedures in order to maintain the safety and security of the library program
• You are proficient with computer software applications to maintain and search for information as well as prepare correspondence and reports
• You can use automated library information systems
