About the job

In this role, you will:
• Provide policy advice, expertise, and briefings to senior management
• Research and review long-range financial planning strategies and infrastructure finance and grants policy
• Manage and lead all aspects of project planning
• Contribute to the development of benchmarks and criteria for the monitoring and evaluation of policy initiatives across sectors and to assess new or changed policies and programs
• Participate on working committees and task forces and develop successful working relationships with stakeholders

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge

You have knowledge of:
• Key objectives related to long-range financial planning, performance measures and data analytics to identify and evaluate relevant issues for local governments in Ontario, and to advise senior management
• Theory, principles, and methodologies of economics and municipal finance
• Legislation and regulations related to municipal finance (e.g. Municipal Act and the Job for Prosperity and Infrastructure Act)
• Provincial and municipal government structure, decision-making and accountability structures

Project Planning and Management Skills

• You have project coordination and management skills to provide leadership and guidance to project staff
• You can manage all aspects of research project planning

Research and Analytical Skills

You can:
• Identify emerging financial and economic issues, trends, and best practices in the sector, to provide advice, interpretation, and policy expertise to senior management
• Evaluate competing interests and proposals of stakeholders to identify issues and impacts
• Conceptualize and plan research studies and projects
• Assess and develop performance criteria to assess new or changed policies and programs

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

You have:
• Advisory and consultation skills to provide policy expertise and direction
• Consensus-building skills to discuss and resolve diverse and competing policy and program related issues with inter-jurisdictional stakeholders, and to negotiate mutually acceptable solutions
• Facilitation and presentation skills to explain program policy positions and promote policy/strategic initiatives
• Partnership building and influencing skills to develop effective linkages and collaborate on projects
