Welcome to Silent Lake Provincial Park! This park boasts over 19 km of hiking trails and 17 km of mountain biking trails, two sandy beaches, campsites, yurts, cabins and cross-country ski trails. As a member of the park maintenance program, you will carry out a variety of semi-skilled maintenance duties, program responsibilities and provide group leadership.
Please Note: This position requires the ability to work independently, follow and carry out instructions and work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule. The hiatus period is from February to mid-April.
About the job
In this role, you will:
- Repair and upgrade complete water and sewage systems, electrical utility systems and buildings.
- Perform minor electrical repairs across the park
- Perform all regulatory water sampling for water treatment facility and beach samples
- Install sanitation accessories in buildings (e.g. paper dispensers, mirrors, vanities, partitions).
- Operate various park vehicles such as tractors with implements, lawn mowers, atvs, boats, pickup trucks, one
tonne trucks
- Sample, test and maintenance of waste and drinking water systems
- Provide leadership to maintenance staff and assign duties as required
What you bring to the team
Technical Knowledge:
• You can obtain and apply knowledge of parks programs, services and operating regulations.
• You can apply knowledge of the operation and maintenance of provincial park facilities and support services, i.e. campsites, day use, comfort stations, hydro, gas, solar electric generation and propane appliances.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of water and sewage systems operation and maintenance as per Ministry of the Environment and Health standards.
• You can apply purchasing and accounting policies, procedures and best business practices.
• You have proven knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
Maintenance Experience:
• You can operate and maintain a variety of powered equipment, i.e. chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors, chlorinating systems, lawnmowers, boats and small hand tools.
• You have experience with semi-skilled tasks associated with skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive and HVAC.
• You can perform a variety of maintenance tasks using hand tools and power equipment with minimal supervision.
• You can conduct park inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance to park standards.
Leadership and Organizational Skills:
• You have demonstrated group leadership, organizational, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
• You can provide group leadership to a seasonal workforce of fixed term staff and students.
• You have organizational skills to direct and evaluating the park maintenance programs
• You can coordinate daily maintenance work such as cleaning, garbage collection, grounds and building cleaning and maintenance, trail maintenance and small equipment and automotive maintenance.
Communication Skills:
• You can use software programs to maintain records, prepare the year-end maintenance report, and document asset management.
• You can interpret and apply simple blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, operating and code (i.e. electrical, plumbing, building) manuals.
