Do you have a background in maintenance or the trades? If so, bring your expertise to the Kenora Jail where you will provide general maintenance services for the correctional facility.

Please note:
• This position requires you to work on an on-call basis. The hours of work are 0 to 40 hours per week, including weekends and statutory holidays, based on operational requirements and with no guaranteed hours.
• The Kenora Jail is located at:1430 River Drive, Kenora (Please click on address link for a map of where the jail is located)

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Assist and escort contractors and tradespersons in the overall maintenance of the building
• Perform semi-skilled and general maintenance duties
• Check plumbing and performing some maintenance where possible (i.e. repair or replacing taps, toilets, and water lines; unplugging sinks, drains, sewage lines and traps, etc.)
• Perform routine maintenance tasks
• Perform minor electrical maintenance (i.e. changing bulbs, fuses, switches, fixtures; cleaning and servicing electrical motors, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers etc.)
• Clean, oil, adjust, and installing locks
• Patch cracks and plaster, brick or cement and painting
• Regularly check valves and pressure gauges on boilers and condensation pumps
• Perform other duties, as required

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a valid G driver's license

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have demonstrated knowledge and experience with a wide range of general maintenance work (such as plumbing, electrical, repairs, etc.)
• You are able to understand and work from specifications and drawings
• You are experienced in the safe operation of hand/powered tools and equipment
• You have knowledge of health and safety
• You have demonstrated ability to follow workplace policies and protocols in order to ensure a safe and secure work area

Skills

• You have communication skills to coordinate with and escort contractors and tradespersons
• You are able to work effectively with facility staff
• You have problem-solving skills to identify maintenance issues or malfunctions, troubleshoot, and determine appropriate solution
• You are able to prioritize and effectively manage own work

  • Effective October 1, 2021, the OPS COVID-19 Safe Workplace Directive requires all Ontario Public Service employees to provide proof they are fully vaccinated, meaning they are fully vaccinated as defined by the Ministry of Health (refer to: COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated Status in Ontario), including 14 calendar days have passed since receiving their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

    Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Directive and will be required to attend a vaccine education program and undergo regular rapid antigen testing. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program but must undergo regular rapid antigen testing.
